Edward Tufte is some one who champions visual data representations rather than marching slides. I do agree to most of the ideas. But the real question is do we have a really better substitute..? If you know, i request you to post here. If not lets make a wise use of Powerpoint.

I came across a stunning book , “The story of an entrepreneur in Silicon Valley”, preview it here with Google Books, http://bit.ly/ozbqjs

About the book:

“Ben Casnocha discovered he was entrepreneur at age 12 and hasn’t slowed down since. In this remarkably instructive book, Ben dissects the entrepreneurship “gene,” explaining that everyone has inherited it if they have an idea to make the world a better place. In Casnocha’s case, he found a better way for city governments to communicate with constituents on the Web. Six years later, Comcate has dozens of municipal clients, a growing staff, and a record of excellence. This book is the story of his start-up, but also a conversation with his mentors, clients and fellow entrepreneurs about how to make a business idea workand how to have the time of your life trying. From Pat Lencioni to Marc Benioff of salesforce.com, Ben has won over the best and brightest of the business worldnow it’s your turn!”

I didn’t read the book completely but went through the pages available for preview from Google books and found it quite interesting.

The crux of entrepreneurship is to start working on the idea, develop it, even if it is not perfect its fine and start the development of your product with your initial customers.

While working in a Technology Business Incubator, I heard many people crying and complaining that we Indians are poor innovators. Last week, while relaxing at home, my mind started travelling back to the ancient Indian civilization. A civilization which mastered metallurgy, mining (especially gold), handled a major part of the global trade, invented ‘ZERO’, pioneered astrology, visualized (or designed?) air-travelling, was the center of education (Nalanda and Taksha Shila).. and the list just grows…!

How can we possibly become non-innovators living in the land of innovation?

The answer to all my questions came today. It came with a big surprise and also took me back to my own school days!

National Innovation Foundation (NIF), an organization promoted by DST, Govt. of India, showed the world what Indian kids can do.

For all those Indians (including me ! ) who are always amazed by the innovations of the whiz-kids from places like MIT, Stanford, here is an Indian version – by School Kids. These are not technological breakthroughs emerging after years of R&D. Simple, effective and low cost solutions to real world problems.

I wish them all the very best!
